Tennis

The PE curriculum is divided into 6 strands: games, aquatics, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor activities. As part of the games strand tennis has become a popular aspect of the PE curriculum over the past few years.

We are in the very fortunate position to avail of some tennis equipment of Monaghan Tennis Club – this means that each child is supplied with an appropriate-sized racquet and gets to use a variety of suitable training balls to learn the skills. Training balls are bigger and softer than regular tennis balls and this allows the child achieve success in the game.

Skills taught include how to hold the racquet properly, correct stance, rallies, backhand, forehand and the scoring system for tennis. The girls really enjoy the tennis strand and it is particularly good for children who do not like or feel nervous playing contact sports.
